Sustainable Energy Region Event Summary

The Upper Shannon Erne Future Economy Project in collaboration with IT Sligo hosted a facilitated event on growing a sustainable energy region on Wednesday 13 March in Lough Rynn Castle.

Across the counties of Leitrim, Longford, Roscommon and Cavan there are 14 Sustainable Energy Communities (SECs) on the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) network. The event brought together SECs from across the region to explore opportunities and challenges.

Speakers on the evening included Caoimhe McCarthy from Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, Stevie Donnelly from IT Sligo, Joe Lowe Enterprise Office, Leitrim County Council and Niall Kiernan from Global Green Sustainability.

Diaspora Engagement Strategy

diasporaUnder the Upper Shannon Erne Future Economy project three partner counties are producing Diaspora engagement strategies. The Strategies will include local and regional actions.

Connecting Leitrim’s Global Community is Leitrim’s Diaspora strategy 2019-2023.

The strategy sets out a vision to- Connect our Global Community to celebrate, sustain and develop Leitrim. It sets out a number of aims to increase engagement with Leitrim’s Diaspora to bring investment into the county, bring people back to Leitrim, and reach out to those abroad.

Growing a Sustainable Energy Region Workshop

The Upper Shannon Erne Future Economy Project in collaboration with IT Sligo will host a facilitated event on growing a sustainable energy region. Across the counties of Leitrim, Longford, Roscommon and Cavan there are 14 Sustainable Energy Communities (SECs) on the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) network. We aim to bring the SECs from across the region together to explore opportunities and challenges. This event will build networks, identify areas of collaboration and explore future regional projects.

Speakers on the evening will include Caoimhe McCarthy – SEAI, John Mannion – Mohill SEC, Mel Gavin – IT Sligo – SEAI SEC Mentor for the Border & Dublin Region and Joe Lowe – Head of Enterprise with Leitrim County Council
